A cooking-robot supplier can arrange an excellent demonstration and still be the wrong organization for an overseas project. The food trial shows that one machine, recipe and operator can produce an acceptable dish. It does not identify who designed the equipment, who controls the quoted configuration, whose company will appear on the contract, or who will answer when the machine is operating in another country.

The Chinese market currently includes manufacturers, brand owners, trading companies, distributors and integrators, with relationships that are not always visible in social-media promotion. A buyer does not need to reject every intermediary. A capable distributor may provide stronger language or local support than a factory. The evaluation needs to establish responsibility: who owns the product decision, who supplies evidence, and who remains accountable after the sale.

Map the company behind the account

Manufacturers seeking overseas sales often give videos and product material to multiple distributors. The same model may therefore appear in many Chinese social-media accounts, sometimes under different captions or contact names. Repetition can suggest a wide sales network; it does not reveal which account belongs to the manufacturer. A model appearing in only one account may suggest a direct brand, but limited promotion can create the same pattern.

Start with verifiable identities. Ask for the legal company name, operating or factory address, demonstration-centre address, exact model designation, and the entity that will issue the quotation, invoice, contract and warranty. Then ask who assembles the machine, develops its software and recipes, and provides technical answers. These may be different organizations, and that can be workable when the relationship is clear.

Catalogues are poor evidence of independence because several contacts may circulate the same PDF. English-speaking staff are also scarce in parts of this young export category, so one person may handle international enquiries connected with several accounts. The important question is not whether the first contact works inside a factory. It is whether that person can transparently connect the buyer to the organization responsible for the product.

Look beyond the showroom during a visit

A factory visit should separate what the company makes from what it displays. Observe whether the site assembles the quoted model, produces related cooking equipment, or mainly holds finished units from several brands. A cooking-equipment company may legitimately offer other kitchen machines or even recipe and seasoning development. Mixed activity is not a failure; undisclosed responsibility is the risk.

Ask staff to walk from the quotation to the physical product. They should be able to identify the correct model, electrical version and accessories and explain where configuration decisions are made. Frequent promises to “confirm later” are understandable for an unusual destination requirement. They become a warning when the contact cannot explain basic options on a model supposedly sold regularly.

Installed-base and sales claims are difficult to verify from a conversation. Ask for model history, repeat customers, reference sites and real videos of the machine operating in restaurants, then treat any unsupported total as unverified. A reference does not have to reveal confidential customer data to be useful: the same model, visible workflow, approximate service period and a contactable business where permission exists are stronger than a headline sales figure.

Use the demonstration to test the organization, not only the dish

Strong demonstration staff do more than press Start. They understand how ingredients are assigned, how a recipe is selected, which cooking parameters can be changed and how a new dish is developed. During the session, ask the team to explain one adjustment and then teach the buyer to perform a basic operation. If a visitor can select and run an approved recipe after about thirty minutes of instruction, the interface and training method have demonstrated something useful.

Recipe capability should also be visible as a process. The buyer should see who tastes the food, who translates feedback into heat, time, movement or seasoning changes, and how the approved version is stored. A team that can prepare one memorized showroom dish is different from a team that can work through an unfamiliar customer recipe and explain each revision.

The same session can test configuration knowledge. Ask how the model changes for the destination voltage and frequency, what accessories are included, which functions depend on optional modules, and how the software account will work outside China. The purpose is not to catch staff out. It is to learn whether the organization can turn a general model into an exact, supportable overseas configuration.

Check export readiness in the language, documents and software

English support deserves a practical test. Read the operating and cleaning instructions, ask a question that requires more than a sales phrase, and identify who will handle a future fault call. Weak conversational English is not itself proof of weak engineering. It becomes an operating risk when the buyer cannot obtain an accurate manual, understand a warning, develop a recipe or report a fault.

Ask to see documentation applicable to the exact quoted model and destination, not only a CE mark or a generic certificate. The relevant declaration, test report, technical material, labels and electrical configuration should agree with the product being discussed. Real restaurant videos help demonstrate use, but they do not replace compliance documents or local professional review.

Digital functions should be tested at the demonstration centre. Log in, change language, select and edit a recipe under supervision, review user permissions and ask how files are exported or transferred. Confirm whether the destination can reach the cloud service, whether fees apply, what data the buyer can retrieve, how updates arrive and what the machine can do without a connection. A large recipe library has limited value if the restaurant cannot control its own programs.

Shortlist the support system, not the most impressive video

After-sales evaluation begins with named responsibilities. The buyer needs the warranty scope, fault-reporting channel, support language and hours, remote-diagnosis method, spare-parts identification process, expected shipping route and the person or partner able to perform physical service. “Video support” can be useful, but it is not a complete answer when a part must be diagnosed and replaced.

Request an initial spare-parts recommendation and ask the supplier to demonstrate how a component is identified from the exact machine. Confirm which manuals, drawings or videos a local technician may receive. If a distributor will provide support, the contract should make clear whether the manufacturer remains involved and which party owns the warranty decision.

A shortlist should become smaller when company identities do not match, basic configuration remains unclear, documents cannot be tied to the model, the software cannot be demonstrated, or after-sales support exists only as a verbal promise. A skillful demo chef and a delicious dish are valuable evidence. They are not substitutes for knowing who built the system and how it will be supported.
